10 things you (probably) don’t know about me
#1. books might just be the death of me (thanks for tagging me Jack Preston King and Lecia Michelle 📃) 🌻
Hey there folks, I’m not entirely sure if any of the following will be interesting to you — but here goes!
#1. I sleep with a neat pile of books on my bed next to my head
yeah, my name is D — and I’m a #bookaholic. I’m not looking for an antidote either, so please don’t @ me — but thanks anyway if you were concerned. I’m aware there is a very real threat to my health and safety — It’s quite miraculous they haven’t fallen on my head and killed me (there are a few heavy duty hardbacks in the pile of eleven and counting) during my sleep. Thinking about it, I wouldn’t mind going out like that — when my time comes hopefully several decades from now. ‘Writer in curious death by books’, hmm, quite the poetic misadventure.
#2. Okay, following up with the whole book addiction thingy — my dream home will have it’s own library one of these days. Like an ENTIRE room *swoons*. I’m super weird and possessive/obsessive about my books, I can’t bare when they look like they’ve been read. Nobody would be allowed to check out any book in my library #sorrynotsorry, playing with my books — is like playing with my emotions. Side note: my current read is Citizen by Claudia Rankine. Reading IS a super power.
#3. I played five aside football (that’s soccer for my US fam) during secondary school (11-16), I was the only girl playing on the team. I always preferred boys company as a kid, I thought girls were super lame back then — I know better now, girls rock! Still, the Universe sent me two sons — just in case — Lmao.
#4. I’m an accidental poet really, three years ago I had an epiphany (of sorts)that I wanted to be a writer. I put pen to paper to spill thoughts, then it just evolved into this slight obsession with poetry. I’ve been bleeding — ever since. Fave poets thus far: Langston Hughes, Sonia Sanchez, Nayyirah Waheed, Rudy Francisco, Lang Leav, Paul Laurence Dunbar…i’ll stop.
#5. At around twenty two, I went on my first and last blind date. We went to a bar, he told me he loved me — I obviously didn’t say it back, I never saw him again.
#6. I really, really do not like dogs — or cats. Again #sorrynotsorry. I’m aware this seems to be an unpopular opinion amongst writers for some reason, I guess I’m willing to take my chances at being unpopular — and just be honest. I was chased a few times by dogs when I was a kid, not fun. I don’t trust cat’s and their claws either — nope.
#7. I never went to my dad’s funeral.
#8. I have not been back to the grave — since my mother’s funeral twelve years ago. I doubt I ever will.
#9. I would like to be cremated.
#10. I live in London, but I would like to emigrate to Singapore/Barbados. So, we’ll see how that goes.
Thanks for reading Medium fam! To tag or not to tag, hmm… Ernio Hernandez… no pressure. 🌻
