Consider this for a moment, everything you or I try to imagine — is an act of rebellion. Against what? You’re possibly asking that right now. Well, it’s a rebellion against any and everything that is undesirable to us in our realities right now.
It’s why, nightmares try to murder all dreams. Our nightmares are our fears on steroids, if we are held captive by fear — it kills the rebellion.
Let that simmer.
It’s not just your imagination
Last night, I wondered how it would feel to be able to breathe under water. I didn’t imagine myself as a mermaid, no. Rather, just as I am. Blessed as I am with functioning legs — and the ability to breathe under water.
I am not the first to wonder about this breathing under water thing of course, i’m just using it to illustrate a point. By the way, the really clever folks in the field of biology, have known for some time that the human fetus have gill like openings in the neck in it’s early development whilst in the womb. I am a Pisces, the two fishes sign (according to Western astrology). Just saying. Hmm.
I start thinking, what does it mean? This curiosity with breathing under water? Do I wish to return to the womb? Ergh…nah. OK, maybe not that far back — maybe a return to childhood then? This adulthood thingy is somewhat trying afterall, the inevitable death and taxes can play heavy on the mind. But again, nah. I don’t think that was it either.
To be honest, I feel it was to do with the desire to increase the feeling of freedom. There is a decision I have been agonising over and need to make (I’ll probably write about it at some point *shrugs shoulders*), it might just actualise the higher freedom I seek when I do make said decision. Anyway, I fell asleep. I awoke some fifteen minutes later, from a nightmare that had me drowning in the sea.
‘nightmares try to murder all dreams.’
Do you see what happened? I put my imagination into gear challenging what is my reality, then as soon as it’s chanced by the advent of sleep on that occasion — my fears collude with the negative subconscious thoughts and create a nightmare to sabotage myself.
You don’t have to be asleep for your negative subconscious thoughts to begin infiltrating your imagination, nope — it’s a little too slick of a machine to only be able to function during our sleep. It’s running this sabotage game on us, twenty — four — seven.
Our minds, can be hostile homes to our imaginations. Forget about the war’s around the world for a moment, we’re already fighting a war within — and we are sleeping with the enemy night after night.
Evolving is the cause
You and I could decide to find a comfortable seat somewhere, and sit there getting older until we die. Everyday would be more or less the same, there’s no stretching outside of that comfortable seated area.
“Most people don’t grow up. Most people age. They find parking spaces, honour their credit cards, get married, have children, and call that maturity. What that is, is ageing.” — Maya Angelou
Evolving, requires more from us.
Here’s a little more biology. When a woman is with child, I could just say pregnant — I mean really, so much more succinct. Okay, take two. When a woman is pregnant (*rolls eyes* — at myself and how extra that was), technically the uterus should reject the fetus as a foreign body.
The human body is designed to seek and destroy foreign bodies like bacteria, viruses and donated organs that are incompatible by blood and tissue type. So, why then is the fetus not attacked by our body? Well, we have these signalling proteins called Chemokines — that activate our T-cells whenever our immune system is under perceived attack. However, once pregnancy occurs — a protective mechanism is triggered and the Chemokines around the fetus and placenta, are switched off (sadly, we still don’t understand entirely why this doesn’t always prevent things like miscarriage).
Still with me?
What if the mind employs the same rationale? What if our imagination is deemed as a foreign body to be sought and destroyed? What if our job, is to switch off those signals by staring fear down into submission?
But, there is a glaring fatal flaw with everything iv’e just written, did you spot it?
What if what you are imagining is already negative?
Then I suggest, there is an even bigger war going on within — and it’s going to require back up.
