Close to You

I learned how to be lonely — by being close to you

Skin on skin with nothing but fast breaths in the space between us,
yet your love — drifted further out of reach beyond some unknown other galaxy

Did you learn how to be lonely by being close to me?

You looked through me like I was a ghost,
every time you held me close
— I felt your heart strings letting me go like a bouquet of balloons

Last night, in a dream — all of my teeth fell out.
I woke up alone with your name on the tip of my tongue
— and nothing but blood in my mouth

Shall we pretend that a sleepless nightmare — is not who we are?
Bloodshot eyes star gaze — throughout a Universe of dark days

What a time to feel lonely and so in love.
Could it be worse?
Wild thoughts wrapped around wild emotions — that feel like a curse

I learned how to be lonely — by being close to you
