Poetry

I’m thinking
about unapologetic joy forever

I’m thinking
of ways that we can be together

I’m thinking
about what grows out of sorrow

about a different heart that I can borrow
riding the Sun way past tomorrow
rocking the boat before I start to row

I’m thinking
about paper planes in stormy weather

I’m thinking
of reading The Coldest Winter Ever

I’m thinking
about someone who looks like midnight

about forests lit up by moonlight
deep conversations through long nights
stardust falling at our beginnings — and our demise

I’m thinking
about how to dream and dream much better

I’m thinking
about how to live a dream forever

I’m thinking
about what grows out of sorrow

about shattered hearts that still beat
seeds that bloom through concrete
about the DNA my ancestors gifted me
