Diaspora Breathing — Diaspora Dreaming

Poetry

We love so hard — we reach much higher,
reflect the stars — we light the fires.
We breathe, we breathe,
build nations on rhythm — a remedy,
we dream, we dream.
The ink in our pens — won’t run dry,
the rivers within — flow day and night,
when it all pours out — we satisfy,
a happening — not once upon a time.
The Universe whispers — and calls our names,
we dance on dust — create a wave.
To ancestral beats — we move our feet,
a melody, we breathe — we dream,
leave them slack jawed and stargazing.
Open hearts spilled — we’re poetry,
we are one — we are many,
no others like us.
Skin on skin we feel like silk,
we’re people — not just bodies.
When it all falls down — love is our song.
