Hey there, this was an intriguing read. I’m an ‘AfroBrit’ of Nigerian heritage born and bred in Britain (specifically London), Nigerian traditional dress very much incorporates head wraps we call ‘Gele’ — for special occasions, as a kind of crown using plain or bold coloured paper like material. They too are wrapped, fitted and tied on your head, then can be removed like hats keeping their shape to possibly be worn again. I don’t know the whole history of how this came to be, hopefully I will get to know more and more. Thank you for sharing 🌻
