I am the storm

I am a soft thing made hard
trauma lingers beneath battle scars

I am a rainbow wrapped up in flames
a warrior with a bleeding heart and stardust in her veins

I am the one you love to hate
the wild you try to shame then tame

I am the one who told you ‘don’t waste your time’
your fingers cannot hold down water — like they cannot hold down light

I am mine — and mine alone
freedom abides inside these aching bones

I am the whisper
speaking life into every dream

I am the storm,
there I go! Fate cannot catch me

Authors note: This poem was inspired by the quote/poem Fate whispers to the warrior “You cannot withstand the storm” and the warrior whispers back “I am the storm.” — u/k
