In the Heat of July

A poem

In the heat of July,
the sun will set.
And when it’s too damn hot to sleep at night,
a full moon — so big and so bright —
will rise to sing us a lullaby.
And all at once,
the stars will come out and fill up the sky.
And us, the moon lovers,
who’ve been falling to pieces through the blazing sunshine,
will exhale a sigh
and slip into dreams
of this miserable, magical, (mis)adventure of a life.
