It seems
like I’ve walked thousands of miles
in the opposite direction from you

but still
so far, no matter what I do
whenever I set my gaze West, East, North or South
towards the curve of the Earth

there you are
covered in sunlight
held in between the Ocean and the sky
still out of reach
your eyes locked in a meeting with mine
still speaking
of the longest goodbyes

in those moments between you and I
the songbirds
take flight just over our shoulders — near by
ready to sing us out one last time

but instead
they are stuck like scratched records that repeat
humming only the bridge
of our goodbye songs melody

because somewhere
in the middle of these light years in between us
lies a war torn wasteland
filled with tiny broken pieces of bloodied hearts
