Member-only story
it’s a long walk, I walk with pride
looking microaggressions dead in the eye
we light up, we still rise
forward Pan-African, liberation vibes
that’s the courage — that’s a higher love
that Black Feeling, Black Talk
those conscious lyrics in Hip-Hop
that Black star, those street Poets
these fire beats, the people know it
whenever I need to calm my mind
I walk with thousands of ancestors on my left and right
and as far back as I can see behind
I tell the stories of our lives, reflecting these days — these times
Nina taught me — we’re still young, gifted and Black
more than words strung together, more than every hate fuelled attack
Black lives matter — is a matter of fact
I’ve told ya, out in the streets — we carve Poetry out of concrete
jungles where dreams imagined between sheets
can get shot down and bleed into nightmare realities
we call it murder, we sing redemption songs
we form hard edges, we carry on
born of the wildest wind…
