Lovers Rock

Poetry

you sway with me through constellations
the space between the stars is ours
we call the Ocean home
riding waves full of lost and found souls
we set adrift and sail away to where borders bleed to the waters rhythm
let’s one two step across the desert
drenched in sunlight and sweat
with rum punch in our bloodstreams and our heads in a spin
we’ll be almost sick of love songs
until the saving grace of Rufus&Chaka Khan
playing on the radio singing ‘I will love you anyway, even if you cannot stay’
like falling stars — in unison with our heartbeats
we will slip rock steady — underneath the sheets
dreaming about just one more night
as we lay down beside the Moon

Authors note: The line ‘I will love you anyway, even if you cannot stay’, is from the song Sweet Thing by Rufus&Chaka Khan.
