Me and My Black Pen
‘All I need in this life of sin’
is me and my Black pen
write with me til the bitter end
just me and my Black pen
‘look for me’
writing words sometimes I can’t say
getting it down and out in my own way
doing this shit most of everyday
exploring the deepest corners of my inner space
the world says you can’t do this
then says you can’t do that
until you feel so small and just under attack
and wanna fade and just fall right back
but nah,
I gotta listen for my own sound
when they’re trying to keep a good woman down
I just get back up — just rise above them now
as they freeze and gaze up at the clouds
watch me fly as I adjust my crown
now they’re the ones that are hurting now
‘look for me’
I hear you call my name
as you go down in flames
but it just ain’t pulling on my heart the same
like in the days thoughts of you — stuck in my brain
just when I’m starting to feel better now
you wanna read out all of my love letters now
sometimes it’s just too late to say sorry now
I just moved on anyway — just did somehow
Now,
‘All I need in this life of sin’
is me and my Black pen
write with me til the bitter end
just me and my Black pen
don’t get it twisted, I still wish you all the peace and the blessings
just know, with my heart — you can no longer be messing
I was put here for much greater things
than just fitting in where you put me in
no hate, you still a King — I just can’t be your Queen
I’m right where I’m supposed to be
doing everything that’s right for me
so I can get the best out of me
that’s why I just had to set us free
we don’t need to go to war
picked up my pen to try and drop these swords
we’re only human, so we brace for all the coming storms
my heart is full, Black as my roots, I’m open, I’m coming through
don’t look behind, I swear — you won’t find me there
just a silhouette of my middle fingers up in the air
trust, that’s me at my most sincere
I’m ready to win, ready to begin, I’m looking forward whilst you just
‘look for me’
‘All I need in this life of sin’
is me and my Black pen
write with me til the bitter end
just me and my Black pen
we were a whirlwind
we’ve just got to let this be
I let my pen spill and set us both free
we were a whirlwind
we’ve just got to let this be
I let my pen spill and set us both free
