Oh lordy, Sam… I literally just responded to a question within a similar context posed by another writer here on Medium… asking whether there is room for Black writers to not write about Black stories…

It’s obviously a loaded question and I can’t say I fully know how to answer, and yes — the whole social construct thing is noted — but it’s the narratives widely attached to race that are the issue, rather than ‘race’ itself. Like the whole construct of time, we can use this for good and bad even if we acknowledge it’s just fiction adhered to for our convenience. Idk, I guess there are remote islands where one could live and do away with all our crazy constructs like race, time, money, etc… so the answer to your question, would be yes it’s possible — for as long as you divorce yourself from society and other humans. #BeingHumanIsExhausting 🌻
