One Hundred Years Too Soon

Poetry

Committed to nothingness —
my liberty became your muse,
shifting the goal posts
you watched me chase and adore you,
if I ever fall like that again —
it will be one hundred years too soon.

Authors note: The title is taken from part of a sentence/paragraph written by James Baldwin in his classic book The Fire Next Time.
