This!!! One of the most irritating things I encountered immediately over and over again in the writing world, is this kind of martyrdom by Writers who attach this idea of not wanting to be paid for writing to their nobility/morals as a human and indeed their chops as a brilliant writer. All whilst casting judgement over those of us that do want to be paid, as somehow unworthy of the title Writer. I hate that. To me it encourages others to treat every Writer as unpaid work horses. The amount of times I’ve been asked to write something for someone for free and told that ‘exposure’ is the only trade they are willing to make for my words and how soooooo many other writers they have worked with before have done so for free… well, i’d be pretty wealthy by now.
