When It Comes to Love

A poem

When it comes to love,
are we ever ready for the fall?
The reckless abandon of it all;
the hours of longing
the hours of withdrawal?
Ready or not,
Cupid welcome’s you with a shot to the heart
and a wry smile on their face
into a wild Universe so full of joy and heartbreak.
As it discards sense and turns the wise foolish
you adventure on in wonder of the parts of you you’ll find;
if it all crumbles you’ll grieve for the parts of you that die.
We’re tasked to give the best of our love away
despite the odds in this wicked game.
A moth to a flame.
A wolf to the moon.
Strangers by dawn.
Loveless by noon.
It’s an earthquake shaking everything left and right
It’s the gentle intensity of a million butterflies.
It’s the vulnerability, excitement and chaos inside.
It’s the moments of enlightenment once you realise.
This unstoppable feeling — is love.
Now here comes the misguided devotion,
devastation and loneliness;
the sweetest of dreams
and those pointless regrets.
No sense to be found when it comes to our fate.
lessons arriving on time
but we’ll still learn too late.
Past our skin, inside our oceans
love ignites a raging fire;
the question is:
Does it mean to disturb our peace
and curse us with desire?
